In 1655 again, British Protestant hero [[w:Oliver Cromwell|Oliver Cromwell]] threatened to invade France and crush the French Crown for a new massacre being waged upon the French Vadois Protestants of valley of Piedmont by six Catholic Regiments by the Duke of Savoy.

The massacre of the poor Irish protestants on October 23rd 1641 - the "Feast" of Ignatius Loyola. How fitting a day for a massacre by these bloodthirsty swine. It is estimated that 150,000 Irish Protestants were butchered in the streets and in their homes. This slaughter took place over an eight-year period. Finally, once again it was Oliver Cromwell who finally invaded Ireland and attacked the Jesuit base at [[w:Siege of Drogheda|Drogheda]] and in a rage exterminated the entire Catholic village of 2000. Only this invasion finally ended the massacre of the Protestants. These seeming innovations did not set well with the commercial interests of the great European investments. There was an undercurrent of opposition against the Jesuits which would eventually lead to the Suppression of the Society within the next half-century. The Jansenists, too, piqued by their reversals engineered by the Jesuits were in the first row accusing the Jesuits of various nefarious schemes.

** Those were very trying years for the Society and for the General to see it heading towards dissolution. All the governments of Europe had been ranged against it for several years and during preceding generalates. Ricci had to face the culmination of what had been prepared for years and partly, perhaps, at the fault of the Society itself. Pope Clement issue the letter of Suppression for which he is unjustly condemned by some. The Society was forbidden to receive Novices and the houses of the Society were confiscated and the Churches given to others. The whole world seemed to be in upheaval. George III of England was having his problems with his unruly colony on the other side of the Atlantic. In Portugal a 72-year-old Jesuit, who had been a missionary in Brazil, was accused of being an accomplice in a plot to kill the king. He was imprisoned in the Belem Tower. His imprisonment reduced him to seeing bizarre visions. The poor old man was finally found guilty of heresy, condemned by the Inquisition, dragged from prison to the Rossio Square in Lisbon, there strangled, and his body burned at the stake in the presence of the king. All countries were expelling the Jesuits and shipping them by whatever means to the Papal States. Some, too old for such treatment died and others left Religion or became secular priests. By 1773 the Suppression was complete.
