Most of what is called “Christianity” today is not the Christianity of the Holy Bible. Most people in modern-day Christian churches want the “righteousness, and peace, and joy” that comes with being a Christian (Rom. 14:17), but they don't want the “trials”, “tribulations” and “persecutions” that come with it (Mark 10:30; Acts 14:22; Rom. 5:3; II Thess. 1:4; II Tim. 3:12; I Pet. 1:7; 4:12). In the Old Testament God's people suffered greatly (Heb. 11:35-38). In the New Testament God's people suffered greatly (Matt. 13:21; Mark 4:17; 10:29,30; John 16:33; Acts 14:22; Rom. 5:3; 12:12; II Cor. 1:4; 12:10; II Thess. 1:4; II Tim. 3:12; I Peter 1:7; 4:12; Rev. 1:9). Throughout the centuries God's people have suffered greatly and continue to suffer “for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Rev. 1:9; 13:15) (see The Acts And Monuments by John Foxe). In modern Christianity motivational teachers and self-esteem preachers with “good words and fair speeches” have taken the place of scriptural teachers and biblical preachers teaching Jesus' message of “repent” or “perish” (Rom. 16:18; Mark 1:1; Luke 13:1-5). With most modern-day Christians spending more time watching TV than reading the Bible, it is no wonder why so many “do err, not knowing the scriptures” (Matt. 22:29; ). Incidentally, for a thousand years the Roman church deceived and conquered the peoples of Europe during the Dark Ages by moving from a word based culture – “the scriptures”, to an image based culture – statues, relics, symbols, visions, imagery. And the same type of deception is taking place today in the Christian community. Most modern-day Christians' beliefs are being shaped more by what they see and hear on television than what they read in the Bible. Even within conservative Protestant churches the pure words of the Lord in the Holy Bible are slowly being replaced with imagery and symbolism, as pagan Christmas and Easter plays and corrupt movies like The Passion are now acceptable supplements to the Bible, substituting images for the written word. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is “the Word” (John 1:1,14), “and his name is called The Word of God.” (Rev. 19:13). The Romanization of Protestant churches, moving people from a word based culture to an image based culture, is all part of the “falling away” of the church foretold in second Thessalonians (II Thess. 2:3-12). With TV programs like Wheel Of Fortune, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Deal Or No Deal, Sex And The City, Desperate Housewives, and American Idol, it is no wonder why so many are “conformed to this world” as the “cares of this life” “and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word” (Rom. 12:2; Luke 21:34; Mark 4:19). And the so called “Christian” networks are no better with their idolatrous pagan customs and their covetous prosperity doctrines, “supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.” (I Tim. 6:5).
